# notify

Windows notifications: the toast that slides in at the bottom right and stays in the notification center.
Windows only.

```
basher install notify
```

```python
import notify
notify.show("Build finished", "basher.exe is ready in dist/")
notify.show("Quietly", "no sound this time", sound=False)
```

| function | what it does |
|---|---|
| `show(title, text, sound=True) -> bool` | shows a notification; `False` if Windows refused (notifications turned off for apps, say) |

- The title is cut at 63 characters and the text at 255 (Windows' own limits).
- It's sent as the program itself: the toast says the exe's name. (Toasts with a custom app name and buttons need
  WinRT plus a Start-menu shortcut; not in this version.)
- A small tray icon exists while the program runs and goes away when it ends. If the program ends right after
  `show`, it waits up to 1.5 s first, or Windows would cancel the toast before it appears.
- Focus Assist / Do Not Disturb hides toasts; they still land in the notification center.
- Tests: set `BASHER_NOTIFY_DRY=1` and `show` does everything except hand it to Windows (nothing on the screen).
